Meet the Dragon's Apprentice Team Behind This Community Project

Celebrate Harpenden. Support Local Talent. Make a Difference

Support Local Talent and Charity

This Charity Quiz & Games Night is being organised as part of the inspiring Dragon’s Apprentice Challenge, where a team of ambitious students, from Katherine Warington School, is aiming to turn £100 into £1,000 to support local charity Communities 1st.

The team is supported throughout the project by an experienced local Business Mentor who helps them develop their ideas and business skills during the challenge.  In addition to this Quiz & Games Night,  the team has already organised and run a Bake Sale and created a unique 'Images of Harpenden' Calendar too.

Every penny raised helps raise funds for the Communities 1st charity, with all proceeds supporting its 'Communities Thirst' Coffee Cart project.

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • How many people can we have in a team?

You can have between 4-8 people in a team - it's entirely up to you! If there's only two of you that's fine - sign up and we'll pair you up with others on the night!

  • Is it a Quiz or Games Night?

Both!  We wanted to create something a bit different so the first half of the evening will be a standard quiz.  We'll then break for a delicious dinner - supplied by Godfreys Fish & Chips.  The second half of the evening will be some fun and games including Bingo (with cash prizes!).

  • What are the food options and how do we order?

As soon as you have purchased your tickets you will receive a link to complete a form choosing your dinner options.

The following food options will be available...

    1. Cod + Chips

    2. Battered Halloumi (4 Pieces) + Chips

    3. Sausage + Chips

    4. Cod (Gluten Free batter) + Chips. Please note that GF food is cooked in the same oil as all the other fish.

For allergen information and food details please visit the website - https://godfreyschips.com/

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

All payments will be processed securely online using the global payment provider Stripe - https://stripe.com/gb

  • Who is Processing the Payments?

The payments are being processed by the team at 'The Harpenden Guide' Community App.  This is a local community initiative founded and run by the team's Business Mentor.

  • What is the Dragons Apprentice Challenge?

The Dragons Apprentice Challenge pairs teams of Year 12 students with local business people (a Dragon) and a local charity or community group.  They are then tasked with developing business strategies and delivering their ideas to turn £100 of seed capital into £1,000 or more, with all profit generated going directly to the team’s charity.

The team planning this event are from Katherine Warrington School and they are being mentored by local Businessman Peter Barker.

  • What does the Charity 'Communities 1st' do?

The money raised by this project will be directly supporting the charity's 'Communities Thirst' Coffee Cart' initiative.

Communities 1st develops, connects and supports local voluntary and community organisations, helping to improve the quality of local peoples lives.

It provides support services for older people and those with vulnerabilities and facilitates various meetings and events around health and wellbeing within the local community.

  • I have a question, how do I contact you?

Simply drop us an email to enquiries@harpendenguide.co.uk and we'll forward onto the team.
